disposable phone

This is why I want to move to Europe and Asia. Consumer electronics are just so much more progressive in these areas, especially in the realm of cell phones. Sure, everyone is all hyped up and salivating over the recent release of Apple’s new 3G iPhone, but it’s all old news to the rest of world. While we’re trying to figure out how we can end our contract with Verizon to get the sweet, sweet iPhone, the Euros and the Asians are trying to figure out what their 4th cell phone of the year should be. Because while we see our phones as a necessity, our counterparts are beyond that… it’s all about communication as a commodity.

The popular disposbale razor and ball-point pen maker, Bic, has teamed up with France’s cell phone provider, Orange, to launch the new Bic Phone. The disposable phone will come with a ready-charged battery and provide an hour’s worth of calls. The phone comes SIM card ready, so all the user has to do is activate the phone. When your time is up, ditch the phone or extend your time by credit card.

That’s a good point. Many of the disposable electronic items can be recycled, much like disposable cameras.
I think it’d be a great marketing move to give rebates if users return the phone to be recycled.
    What do you think?

oh, i just think it’s dumb and unresponsible all around.

i know that most people can hold on to bic pens for more than a day, but they shouldn’t turn that into a business model.

    anyhoo, love the site
